Her research interests include life writing, historiography, and nineteenth- and twentieth-century South African history.
She is currently finishing her first book, Empathy and the Psychology of Literary Modernism. She has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and is particularly interested in letterness and stories. Her most recent books are the monograph Mourning Becomes.
