Frankly Spooking by Sriramana Muliya
Frankly Spooking is the book you are scared to pick up and unable to put down. If you like spooks, this will be a very rewarding buy. The best part about Sri's stories- they are totally original. They are never predictable and keep you on the edge of your seat.
Spooking out the reader comes naturally to the author. He keeps the stories short and fast paced and what works wonderfully for him is the shock value. Its his debut endeavor, and Sriramana Muliya succeeds and how! Also it leaves you h Rohini Singh May, Muliya is a master in the horror story genre His stories are crisp, precise and spine chilling. No long winding descriptions, no atmosphere building tactics A supernatural aficionado i found this book immensely enjoyable and engrossing.
All the stories are brilliant. For a free sample of Muliya's works check out his blog Namita Jonas May, Not bad for a debutant. Some of the stories really send a chill down your spine but most of them are a tad unrealistic. Awesome delivery by Flipkart. Finished the book within 2 days. You can go and buy this if you want a short, compact and somewhat spooky read.
Ink-stained Fingers.: Frankly Spooking: A review
Grips you by your nerves, gives you chills. A very refreshing genre ad mist all the romance out there by the Indian authors. A must read for all those who like supernatural stories; this is a collection of spooky tales that will make you come face to face with your fears. Like the stories on his blog, Sriramana Muliya never fails to engross you and give you those shivers and spooky feelings. The author deals well with the paranormal kind, but less so with gore. It was twisted in the most dark and brilliant way.
However, and I would say this about almost all the stories , the title could have been different. A more serious title next time, Sriramana? A little more description of their behaviors and appearances would have helped though. Otherwise, the book is simple and easy to follow. The layout and simple language would encourage more people to take up reading as a hobby again hopefully!
The stories could have been a bit longer. For example, the last story Blogosphere was really well written, especially because it is not too condensed or scrunched up. Short stories are tricky, but expanding them by a few paragraphs would have helped the buildup leading to the sudden and unexpected climaxes of the stories.
When I read Blogosphere, I was half hoping the author would add a more autobiographical touch to it, to spook his readers out even more!
